Power of the Law: Mario Gallucci JD'90

How do Vermont Law and Graduate School alumni use the power of the law to make a difference?

As the founder of Helbock, Nappa & Gallucci, LLP, Mario Gallucci JD'90 tackles major criminal defense cases.

Mario's philosophy is that good people can get caught up in unfortunate circumstances, emphasizing "there's much more to their life than one little incident."

With New York facing an opioid crisis, Mario also works with addicts, helping them get into rehabilitation programs.

I'm Mario Gallucci, I'm the class in 1990. Now I own a law firm, 28 years later, and I concentrate my practice in major criminal defense cases. I represent a lot of very good people that are caught up in sometimes some very bad situations. So take, for instance, somebody who's never been in trouble all their life. And then one night, they go out and they have a little too much to drink. And they get a car accident and they kill somebody. You know, there's much more to their life than that one little incident. And I find it very gratifying in representing those good people who are caught in bad situations. I spend a lot of time defending people addicted to drugs. There's an opioid crisis going on here in New York. That's it's just unbelievable. It's devastating. And I spend a lot of time not only trying to get my clients into drug rehabilitation programs, but I actually along with one of my former clients set up something called Carl's house. And Carl's house is a place for drug addicted people to go to for resources to find out programs they can get into to find lawyers like myself, who can assist them, especially people who don't have the resources to hire somebody to do the work to get them into a program. Although I have a very big practice and a very well known, I try to spend a lot of time also helping those that can't afford my services, especially people that are addicted to drugs or alcohol and find themselves in a bad situation. As a matter of fact, one of the most gratifying things are the letters I get from my former clients telling me how I saved their lives and where they are now in their life.
